Infinity Frequencies, also known as Farnsworth Templeton III
When I first heard a track for Haircuts for Men I thought, "This sounds like Silent Hill music," and to no surprise, it was just a track from Silent Hill 2--and it wasn't even significantly modified from the original. Akira Yamaoka pioneered a sound like this in the 2000s, so I just call this stuff silenthillcore.
corny ahh ending lowkey
No Chad Pennington references, not a bad QB
Dude now I need one
This isn’t a genre it’s literally just stealing lol. It’s playlists
Never got too invested in this subgenre or vaporwave in general. It's all aesthetic, no substance, for the most part. I get the point of it, but it's low frequency music. But "a vibe" is all the kids care about today. It's elevator music, I prefer bus ride music. 🤷♀️
Barber beats in my mind is kind of the evolution of those radiostation mixtape with a "top20" or "top100" (or whatever) tracklist, and just as so: legaly speaking, i dont see why these artists wouldnt be able to monetize themselves much the same way, all theyd need is a label and the right legal procurements and they might even be allowed a larger cut than a normal mixtape, as they could argue some of the tracks were remix' or (legaly speaking) covers of the original and therefore would potentially be relegated a larger cut of the revenue
As a medication aide/care taker for four years, the album brought me to tears. Taking in what the creator was expressing was so moving. Accepting mortality, the state of consciousness, the self.. I have so much respect for the creator to take on such heavy topics with such beautiful delivery.
I love using the UA-cam algorithm for new music. So of course I bumped into the barberbeats genre. I had no idea what I was listening to, but the cover art is exactly why I had an interest in exploring more. Imagine my surprise when I was trying to look up specific tracks to only be lead back to the same video. I believe listing the original songs would close the gap in the moral issue of this. The fact that I can't appreciate individual tracks is why I lost interest in the genre. When it all blends together it's hard to appreciate it outside of mindless background noise.
The cover art has inspired me in a *huge* way. The music itself is largely elevator music even the original songs.
Ok im not sure why like a giant underwater snake is my biggest fear eel close enough. However i was never bothered by the eel at all. Swimming beast in Cavern Dory was my nightmare why? Well let me explain its all about setting jolly rodger bay relaxing music i like. Oonagi might damage u but he never tried to eat that meatball swimming around as an open target. However first star title swimming beast in cavern little me thought um that sounds nasty. Creepy as cave weird music ride down an escalator creeper weird music where is this beast? Oh WTF its swimming menacingly slow mouth slowly open and close ok f this swam over to the sign (dont become his lunch). Yeah that scared me between the mysterious nature the creepy music the lonelyness the dark black shark like eyes the noise dory makes after pounding its back all this uncertainty made me very anxious and afraid of it as a kid. Till this day i wait for a rom hack where dory eats mario in a bloody mess if i seen that i would feel more relaxed the uncertainty is what is scary as a kid i used to think what if i hit the water is it going to charge me or something? However a little older i realized dorys type only eats plants but still what if i was wrong? Lol
I’m way more blown away by the artwork as designer sheesh
The algorithmic Lofi-Beats-ification is hitting all art forms right now, games, all music genres, studio art, design, fashion. It's so refined but essentially unoriginal that it comes across as generic. The floor for basic low effort style has been raised but it's hard to fully enjoy these things because of the saturation. I get that you like what you like, no matter what it is or how it got there, but to me these things are products before works of art.
So it's like night core?
If you dont listen to stuff like this, i dont consider you to even have a taste in music
Havent watched a video of yours in a while and I must say, you've improved
There’s no contradiction here. Vaporwave started out criticizing capitalism and hyper-consumerism. Eventually, this genre, as any other type of music (or cultural movement tbh), got integrated in the system it once criticized. It’s like criticizing a communist because he has a phone - you literally cannot live without one in todays ocidental world.
Holy shit, I just found out that Modest is from MORÓN (a small city in Buenos Aires, Argentina). As someone that spent the last 9 years living in Argentina, I cannot avoid feeling proud of such great talent in my second home :')
I can see the profit easily skyrocketing when they start plundering AI generated beats
Wait maybe I'm onto something and should get in first
Heavens emperor- teenage poetry
I love this genre. That is all.
i've had some experiences with anterograde amnesia (drug induced in my case) and jesus fucking christ these albums feel exactly like trying to recall something that your brain just didn't record, especially stages 4 and 6. there is nothing quite as confusing, nerve racking, and terrifying as realizing that you don't remember what you did or how you got home last night. but i could always remember taking the pills, and i could always tell myself that there was nothing wrong with my brain other than a case of benzodiazepine addiction. i can't even imagine how horrible it must be to lose everything like that.
I’m drawing guro of you
As an artist, producer, and songwriter, ART IS ART‼️🗣
Pyromaniacs is so fucking good
Health spotted XD
Thanks for shedding light on this genre! I feel that there is not enough attention given to these sounds of healing, although it doesn't seem as so on the forefront, we endure so you won't have to!
*2017 😂 but 👌🏿
It wasn't 'that' brutal
As far as the monetisation i geel like its ok as long as they link or list the main sample(s) in a track so we can go support the original
I thought barber beats was just another thing youtube was randomly showing my like cold war jets but im so glad it showed me these random projects i love electronic music so much dare i say almost chopped and screwed
Great video as always Pad. The song you plated while you were talking about The World We Live In, second song off Oblique Occasion's better than me, one of my absolute favorite barber beats songs. When the temp shifts around 1:45 to a classic hip hop beat it's just absolute perfection. First time I ever heard that I was on the subway going over the Manhattan bridge looking at the New York skyline, always going to be what I think of when I hear that song, glad you included it without directly including it.
Ramleh is my messiah, god is overrated
I think the combination of expert sample knowledge, modulation, and album art all work together to create a strong and coherent mood does legitimately rise to the level of its own genuine artistic expression, they took the source and used it to create something different that doesn't serve the same function, I think it satisfies the conditions of fair use and is a legitimate example of it even if it's probably the most extreme case of it imaginable. I get a lot of the same enjoyment other people do from them and I both would probably never have heard any of the source material without it being repackaged this way, and probably would not have enjoyed it nearly as much without it being curated and presented in this way that makes it something different, not even considering that a lot of the stuff that gets used for these should have been public domain years ago anyway
wouldve been nice if u played a track!
I have no problem with people assembling what are basically slightly dressed-up playlists. There’s no controversy over channels that put out lofi or house mixes. The only issue is when they start asking for money.

I have a grandmother (79) she has stage 7 dementia and she doesn’t remember me, her husband, her daughter and 2 sons. She is a shell of her old self. I miss her so much. (I’m crying writing this. I have a photo of her on my desk from 2013, she’s just so beautiful and she is just gone it feels. If you read my ramble I want to say thanks. This might be my last comment because of my depression, mostly because of her. But it’s not her fault. I thank whoever read my spill. Thank you. I hope to see her, the old her. soon. Whether that be in heaven or hell, wherever I may go.
“Oh yeah, there’s a legit Barber beats cult teeheehee. 😊” *Refuses to elaborate further*
I think barber beats is a sign that the modern streaming service algorithm paradigm has failed a certain portion of music listeners who want album experiences physical or downloadable and who prefer not to spend the vast amounts of time necessary to sort through what albums are actually worth paying for.
check out Micromecha
In the spirit of it's disposability I have been sincerely considering destroying my macroblank records.
Everything is a remix. Whether we like it or not, unique ideas are really rare and most of the time creative people are inspired by other creative people. And taking a good idea and adding your own twist is how we get all the variety we have today. Be it clothes, food or music.
This fails to answer the question 99.99999999% don’t even know exists… “what is barber beats” Even Google struggles to find relevance. Finally dug up a breakout success mentioned in the vid on bandcamp. It was badly distorted breakbeats mostly. Felt like someone uploaded my drunken fruityloops experiments from 20 years ago that I forgot about. If I knew those embarrassments actually have an audience of like 100 people, maybe I would have capitalized.
